July 15 photo exhibition on display in Japan
Anadolu Agency images from attempted coup displayed at Tokyo Mosque Culture Center
TOKYO (AA) – An exhibition of Anadolu Agency photos and footage taken during Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt has gone on display in the Japanese capital.
Muhammed Rasit Alas, imam of the Tokyo Mosque Culture Center, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday that the exhibition -- which opened Oct. 15 -- has been attracting the attention of Muslims and other residents of Japan.
"Our cultural center and mosque is often visited by the Muslim community in Tokyo for cultural and religious reasons," Alas said. "Both Japanese people and the Muslim community in Tokyo have been coming to Anadolu Agency's exhibition."
He added that the images also drew the attention of people who visit the mosque during its "open door" hours each weekend, when two-hour informative sessions are held for people seeking to learn more about Islam.
"People who come to the exhibition carefully look at the photos. They see that the coup plotters attacked public buildings and the Turkish people. They see our nation's struggle to save democracy," Alas said.
The exhibition will be displayed until Nov. 15.
