JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) - The Philippines has made next Tuesday, July 20, a day off in observance of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice.
“The observance of Eid’l Adha is subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures,” a presidential announcement added.
President Rodrigo Duterte last year also declared Eid al-Adha a national holiday.
There are 8 million Muslim Filipinos, representing 10% of the total population.
Most people in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will celebrate Eid al-Adha, one of the two major Muslim holidays.
The Southeast Asian country, meanwhile, has confirmed nearly 1.5 million cases of COVID-19, including more than 26,000 deaths.
