KDP says supports 'will of the Syrian people' post-Baath regime
Kurdistan Democratic Party calls for mutual acceptance among Syria's communities

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Iraq on Monday voiced its respect for "the will and choice of the Syrian people" following the collapse of the 61-year Baath regime and the end of the Assad family's rule.
In a written statement, the KDP expressed hope that this turning point would mark the beginning of an era defined by peace, coexistence, and mutual acceptance among Syria's diverse communities.
“We respect the will and choice of the Syrian people,” the statement read, adding optimism that the new phase would bring an end to conflicts and foster happiness and reconciliation. The KDP also hoped that the developments would positively reshape Syria’s foreign relations.
After a period of relative calm, clashes between Assad regime forces and anti-regime groups reignited on Nov. 27 in rural areas west of Aleppo, a major city in northern Syria.
Over the course of 10 days, opposition forces launched a swift offensive, seizing key cities and, on Sunday, the capital Damascus.
The rapid advance, bolstered by defecting military units, led to the collapse of the Assad regime after 13 years of civil war.
