Kenya sees another 486 COVID-19 cases, 20 deaths
487,278 people vaccinated so far in East African country, says Health Ministry
ANKARA (AA) – Kenya on Monday confirmed 20 new COVID-19-related deaths and 486 more infections after doing almost 3,000 tests across the country in the last 24 hours, the country’s Health Ministry said.
In its daily update, the ministry said the total confirmed infections in Kenya are now 146,156 with the death toll reaching 2,368.
The total number of confirmed recoveries across the East African country of almost 55 million people is now 99,210.
In the country's vaccination campaign, the ministry said that as of Sunday, some 487,278 people had been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, including 118,833 health workers, 39,523 security officers, 70,338 teachers, and 258,584 other members of the public, including people 58 and older.
Kenya has been experiencing a third wave of the COVID-19 with a number of measures and restrictions in place, including a ban on all movements by road, rail, or air into and out of disease-infected areas.
The Kenyan counties under lockdown include the capital Nairobi plus Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru.
The ongoing nationwide curfew in affected areas lasts from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. local time.
