NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - A family of four was buried alive on Monday night in Kenya's Narok county, approximately 140 km (87 miles) southwest of the capital Nairobi, police said.
The incident unfolded as the East African country witnesses flash floods.
Police in a statement said, "Mudslides occurred at an unknown time of the night and caused death to 4 residents members of the same family."
Area police chief Isaac Omare called for caution as the region grapples with heavy rainfall.
Kenya has been seeing relentless downpours, causing widespread flooding and affecting communities and infrastructure.
Authorities said major highways in various parts of the country have been submerged, impeding traffic flow.
In northern Kenya, a passenger bus carrying 51 individuals was trapped in swiftly rising floodwaters.
The Kenya Red Cross in a statement said, "All passengers aboard the bus have now been rescued, with priority initially given to women, children, and those who were sick." But many people remain stranded in different areas as roads have been submerged under water.
The meteorological department has issued warnings of continued heavy rains across Kenya.
