Kenyan police blamed for British aristocrat's murder
Alexander's death was not a natural death, his life was cut short by police, according to judge

NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - A court in Mombasa coastal region on Thursday found five Kenyan police officers guilty of the 2012 murder of Briton aristocrat Alexander Monson, who was the son of British Lord Nicholas Monson.
The court said Alexander Monson had died from blunt force trauma to his head, which is consistent with being hit by the butt of a gun in the head while in the custody of the five police officers.
"The court finds that Alexander's death was not a natural death, his life was cut short by the police, therefore, Directorate of Public Prosecutions should prosecute the officers," Judge Richard Odenyo said.
Police had reported the death as being a case of a drug overdose, which was proven wrong after doctors carried out a postmortem.
The judge’s order came as part of an inquest launched in 2015 by the Independent Police Oversight Authority. The inquest heard that after the police assaulted Monson they delayed in taking him to the hospital resulting in his death.
