NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Turkish Industrial Holding Complex.
The Turkish complex will be spread over 400 acres.
The $760-million project will include six factories for construction, forestry, furniture, and cleaning products.
Kenyatta said the complex is estimated to inject $530 million into the Kenyan economy and create 2,860 direct jobs.
"... we are now on the cusp of a true industrial take-off,” Kenyatta said at the groundbreaking ceremony attended by both Kenyan and Turkish investors.
Upon the project's completion in 2024, Kenyatta said Kenya will dramatically increase its industrial export profile by taking to international markets high-quality and competitively priced products.
Kenyatta thanked the Turkish Industry Holdings Complex for making Kenya its investment destination of choice.
