Knife-wielding man killed by officer at St. Louis airport, police say

ISTANBUL (AA) - A police officer fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect inside Terminal 1 of St. Louis Lambert International Airport in the US state of Missouri early Friday morning.

Authorities have established a crime scene at the terminal as the investigation goes on, with no additional injuries reported.

The incident occurred around 1 am near the American Airlines area in Terminal 1, although the exact location had not been confirmed as of 8 am EST (1300 GMT) on Friday, according to media reports.

During a press conference, St. Louis County Police spokeswoman Vera Clay explained that officers were performing routine checks in areas where access was restricted when they encountered the suspect, who “refused to leave and displayed a knife.”

The suspect advanced toward the officers, prompting them to first attempt “less-lethal” measures, including using a taser.

When the suspect continued approaching despite these efforts, an officer fired his weapon, fatally wounding the knife-wielding suspect, Clay added.
