Elections originally scheduled for Oct. 1, 2022

ERBIL (AA) - Parliamentary elections in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) will be again postponed, according to officials.

The office of KRG President Nechirvan Barzani said Oct. 20 has been set for the elections.

It was initially announced that parliamentary elections would be held Oct. 1, 2022, but due to disagreements between the Kurdish Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) about minority quotas, election laws and the activation of the High Electoral Commission, the polls were postponed for a year and scheduled for Nov. 18, 2023.

These elections were then postponed until Feb. 25, 2024, and then again to June 10, before being set for Nov. 18.

The parliamentary elections in KRG, which are supposed to be held every four years, were last held on Sept. 30, 2018.
