Kuwaiti emir in Riyadh in hopes of healing Gulf rift

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AA) - Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on Tuesday arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of ongoing efforts to contain an unprecedented diplomatic row between Qatar and five other Arab states.

Al-Sabah was received at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport by Prince Khalid al-Faisal, governor of Mecca and adviser to Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, and other Saudi officials.

While in Riyadh, the Kuwaiti emir is expected to meet King Salman within the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain the mounting crisis in relations.

On Monday, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen abruptly cut diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the latter of supporting terrorism.
