Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah takes constitutional oath as deputy emir

By Ibrahim al-Khazen

ISTANBUL (AA) – Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah was sworn in on Sunday as the country’s deputy emir.

He took the constitutional oath before Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the state news agency KUNA reported.

Sheikh Sabah, a former prime minister, was appointed a crown prince on Saturday.

Born on March 15, 1953, he held the post of prime minister from November 19, 2019, to July 24, 2022.

He submitted his government’s resignation in 2022 after several years of a stand-off between his government and the elected National Assembly at the time.

Last month, Sheikh Mishal dissolved parliament and suspended some articles of the constitution for a period of not more than four years.

In the past years, tension had often prevailed in the relationship between the government and parliament in Kuwait, leading to the government's resignation or dismissal on several occasions.
