BEIRUT, Lebanon (AA) – Hundreds of Lebanese people clashed with security forces as they tried to attack the Azerbaijani Embassy in Beirut late Thursday.

According to an Anadolu reporter on the ground, the rioters threw rocks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at the Lebanese police and the Azerbaijani Embassy.

The Lebanese police tried to disperse the rioters by using teargas canisters and water cannons, triggering a clash that left some policemen injured.

As the rioters of Armenian origin used fireworks, a fire broke out around the embassy, which was immediately extinguished.

On Aug. 31, Azerbaijan said its embassy in Lebanon's capital Beirut was attacked by people of Armenian origin.

On Sept. 19, in the wake of provocations by Armenian forces in the Karabakh region, Azerbaijan launched "counter-terrorism activities" in the region to uphold a 2020 trilateral peace agreement with Russia and Armenia. After 24 hours, a cease-fire was reached.
