Lebanon’s Hezbollah attacks espionage installations at Israel border as tension flares

BEIRUT (AA) - Lebanese group Hezbollah said Wednesday it targeted Israeli espionage installations near the border with southern Lebanon.

The group said its fighters struck espionage installations at Hanita site near the town of Alma Al-Shaab with appropriate weapons, resulting in direct hits.

Hezbollah also attacked with missiles gathering points of Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the Metula barracks near the Lebanese town of Rmeish.

The Lebanese movement also claimed to attack an Israeli Merkava tank at the Bia's Bleeda site with appropriate weapons.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on Hezbollah’s statements.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported an Israeli drone attack in the border town of Yaroun and artillery shelling on the outskirts of Aytroun town.

Israeli airstrikes were also reported in the district of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon.

There were no reports of casualties.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
