Border clashes deadliest since Hezbollah, Israel fought full-scale war in 2006

BEIRUT (AA) – Lebanese group Hezbollah exchanged cross-border fire with Israeli forces on Wednesday amid a growing escalation along the border between Lebanon and Israel.

In a statement, Hezbollah said it attacked the Al-Malkieh outpost, Ramya site and Shomera barracks near the border with southern Lebanon “with appropriate weapons.”

The Lebanese group said it also targeted gatherings of Israeli soldiers at the Zuhaira and Manara sites, resulting in “direct hits.”

The Israeli army, for its part, said its forces struck a Hezbollah cell and a site in southern Lebanon.

Israeli artillery shelling also targeted the towns of Marjaayoun and Markaba and warplanes carried out airstrikes on the outskirts of Ramyeh and Ayta ash-Shab towns, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.

There were no reports of casualties.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
