Libya calls on US to do more to support country’s stability
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh says his country is ‘very close to becoming a democratic state’

ISTANBUL (AA) - Libya urged the US on Wednesday to adopt a more comprehensive approach to supporting the country’s stability beyond security measures.
“If Mr. (Donald) Trump or whoever is in charge wants stability in Libya, real solutions must be sought instead of a security-focused approach. Otherwise, we are going back to square one,” Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
He also highlighted that Libya needs “a true constitution that reflects our society.”
“The obstacles were numerous, but the government succeeded in overcoming them by focusing on enhancing stability, developing infrastructure and ending conflicts that caused significant damage to the country in recent years,” he said.
Dbeibeh further urged the world to invest in Libya’s economic resources.
He said his country is “very close to becoming a democratic state through the establishment of a genuine constitution adopted by the people via a referendum.”
