London Underground strike called off by union after improved pay offer

'Further discussions will take place next week regarding the pay offer,' says Rail, Maritime and Transport Union

LONDON (AA) - Plans for an extensive strike by London Underground staff were on Friday called off by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union after a significantly improved pay offer from officials.

The RMT representing over 10,000 members including signaling, station, and maintenance staff, was set to begin its strike on Friday evening, threatening to halt services on most Underground lines.

After London Underground abandoned proposed changes to pay structures, the RMT said its members would now receive equal value in any forthcoming pay award.

"Further discussions will take place next week regarding the pay offer, but progress has been made which would not have been possible without the fortitude and industrial strength of our 10,000 members on London Underground," said an RMT spokesperson.

The changes came in response to union concerns over disparities in pay structures, which RMT members argued created unequal conditions across different roles.
