LONDON (AA) — In the initial results from London's mayoral election, Sadiq Khan, the incumbent Labour Party candidate, surged ahead with promising gains, setting the stage for what his party predicts will be a historic third-term victory.
The first five constituencies to report their results on Saturday revealed a significant uptick in Labour's vote share, marking an approximate 5% increase compared to the previous election held in 2021, according to British media.
Sadiq Khan has won in Hounslow, Kingston upon Thames, Richmond upon Thames, Enfield and Haringey, Hackney, Islington, Waltham Forest, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster.
Khan's early momentum underscores his strong position and widespread support within the British capital.
Meanwhile, Susan Hall, the Conservative candidate vying for the mayoral seat, faces an uphill battle as she would need comparable swings in the opposite direction across the remaining nine constituencies to challenge Khan's lead.
The Labour team say they are confident that they will secure victory.
