ISTANBUL (AA) – Spain’s second-largest low-cost airline on Thursday started flights from Barcelona to Türkiye’s iGA Istanbul Airport.
The Vueling flight arrived via an Airbus A320-200 with 182 passengers on board on Thursday afternoon. A ceremony was held at Gate B12.
Firat Ocak, iGA aviation development director, said at the ceremony that Vueling Airlines was welcomed to the iGA Istanbul Airport on the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.
“Vueling became the 109th scheduled airline at iGA Istanbul Airport, and for now, it will fly three days a week from Barcelona and boost the number of flights to seven a week in the short-term,” he said.
Gonzalo Fernandez Ruiz, airport stations manager at Vueling, said that it was an important step for the airline to start flights to Istanbul in its aim to expand its flight network, hoping for a cultural connection between Istanbul and Barcelona with more flights.
Vueling Airlines’ flights will open the doors to 90 destinations from Istanbul, including the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands through Barcelona.
