KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – Some important government buildings in the capital Khartoum were hit during heavy clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), local media reported on Sunday, without providing details on the casualties.
Images shared on social media show smoke rising from the buildings of the Justice Ministry, Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization affiliated with Prime Minister's Office, and Nile Oil company, all of which were hit in the capital.
As the armed conflict entered its sixth month, clashes between the army and RSF intensified in Khartoum's center, which houses government buildings, banks, and universities.
According to local media reports, the RSF carried out heavy attacks on the Army General Command in the city, the Signal Corps in Bahri, and the Corps of Engineers headquarters in Umdurman on Saturday.
The army claimed to have repulsed RSF attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the opposing forces, killing and injuring dozens of them.
The RSF, on the other hand, blamed the army for the attacks, claiming that "military aircraft deliberately bombed and destroyed Khartoum's infrastructure and living areas."
The buildings of the Justice Ministry, Tax Department, Standards and Metrology Organization, and Nile Oil Company tower, as well as crowded areas and marketplaces, are being deliberately bombed with explosive barrels, the RSF said in a statement.
More than 3,000 civilians have been killed and thousands injured in clashes since April in the war-torn country.
Several cease-fire agreements brokered by Saudi Arabian and US mediators have failed to end the violence.
