Malaysia’s foreign minister calls for equitable future at UN summit
Mohamad Hasan urges cooperation rather than competition
By Zeynep Katre Oran and Ecem Sahinli Ogutlu
Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan called Sunday for a world where no child goes to bed hungry, education is a right and the Global South is recognized as a technology innovator rather than just a consumer.
Speaking at the UN Summit of the Future in New York, Hasan highlighted urgent global challenges, including the situation in Gaza, climate change impacts and the development gap between the Global South and North.
He emphasized the need to address food security, access to education and climate change immediately.
Hasan pointed out that millions of children worldwide are deprived of the right to education and stressed the importance of bridging the scientific and technological divide between the Global South and North.
He also proposed maintaining medical cooperation initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic and establishing a global science fund to encourage innovative solutions to global challenges.
He also called for cooperation rather than global competition in shaping a more equitable future.
