ISTANBUL (AA) — The suspected attacker on a Chinese Consulate in San Francisco died at a hospital in the US, according to media reports.
The incident happened when a man crashed his car into the consulate, which appears to be an "apparent political attack," daily South China Morning Post reported on Tuesday.
"Where's the CCP (Chinese Communist Party)?" yelled the driver as he came out of his car on Monday evening, local time.
After police opened fire, the driver was taken with "serious injuries" to the hospital, where he later died, the report said.
According to Beijing-based daily Global Times, China's Consulate General in San Francisco "severely condemned the violent attack and reserves the right to pursue responsibilities related to the incident as some unidentified individuals violently rammed a vehicle into the consulate's visa hall."
The incident "posed a grave threat to the safety of the staff and the public present, causing serious damage to the consulate's facilities and property."
The consulate has suspended from operating starting from Tuesday, it added.
