ANKARA (AA) – A big tree fell on a family during heavy rain in Paris, killing one man and his two daughters, local media reported on Friday.
The man died after being struck by the tree's main stem, while his two daughters were injured after being hit by tree branches on Thursday evening, broadcaster BFMTV reported.
The deceased man's wife, who suffered a shock, and their two daughters are in the hospital and being treated.
Police confirmed that the incident occurred during Thursday's heavy rains and floods in the country.
Meanwhile, France’s weather authority Meteo France has issued an orange alert for five departments for Saturday.
Ecological Transition Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher visited the central department of Loire, where she told the media that some areas received 600 millimeters of precipitation, "which equals a year of rain in Paris."
She described the situation as “unprecedented” and a reflection of “climate change,” and stressed that the government needs to chalk out plans to coop with future weather incidents.
Several towns were flooded across the country on Thursday by torrential rains, and public energy supplier Enedis confirmed that 4,000 households were deprived of electricity as of Friday morning.
