ISTANBUL (AA) - Marianne Williamson on Wednesday announced the end of her long-shot Democratic challenge to President Joe Biden.
"It is time to suspend my campaign for the presidency,” the 71-year-old author said in a video posted on social media.
"We did what we could to shed some light in some very darkened times. For that I will always be so grateful," Williamson said.
“If you feel that you have a deeper appreciation of the promise of America and of your responsibility to do something about it," Williamson said in a video message to her supporters, adding “then this campaign will have succeeded.”
Her announcement came one day after she was defeated by Biden in the Nevada Democratic primary, receiving a mere 2.1% of the vote, and followed by Dean Phillips with 1.7%.
Biden, who is certain to become the Democratic party’s presidential candidate, had achieved a comfortable victory in South Carolina, securing 96% of the vote.
