Mayor says migrant crisis will 'destroy' New York City

WASHINGTON (AA) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams has issued a stark warning about the growing migrant crisis, saying that it will "destroy" the city, which currently receives over 10,000 migrants each month.

During a town hall meeting on Wednesday evening, Adams highlighted that while the city previously received migrants from Venezuela, it now sees an influx from Ecuador, with Russian speakers also entering through Mexico, along with migrants from West Africa.

"This issue will destroy New York City, destroy New York City. We're getting 10,000 migrants a month," said Adams. "Now again, people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they're going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City."

The mayor also highlighted the widespread impact on the city, saying: "We have a $12 billion deficit that we're going to have to cut. Every service in the city is going to be impacted."

Since April 2022, an estimated 110,000 asylum seekers have arrived in the city.

Republican states like Texas and Florida have recently been transferring migrants to states governed by Democrats, such as Washington, New York, Massachusetts, and California.

The Republican governors of these states argue that they cannot bear the sole burden of dealing with irregular migrants crossing the Mexican border.
