Medals distributed across 7 disciplines on day 6 of 2026 Winter Olympics

Day 6 features 9 medal events as Italy, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands headline podium finishes across alpine skiing, cross-country, freestyle, luge, snowboard and speed skating

ISTANBUL (AA) - Medals found their owners in seven disciplines at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics on Thursday.

On Day 6 of the Games in Italy, nine medal events were contested in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, luge, short track speed skating, snowboard and speed skating.

Italy’s Federica Brignone won gold in the women’s super-G alpine skiing event with a time of 1:23.41. The 35-year-old claimed her first Olympic title and became the oldest gold medalist in alpine skiing in Winter Games history. France’s Romane Miradoli took silver, while Austria’s Cornelia Huetter earned bronze.

Sweden’s Frida Karlsson secured her second gold medal of the Games by winning the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country race in 22:49.2. Fellow Swede Ebba Andersson claimed silver and the US skier Jessie Diggins took bronze.

Australia’s Cooper Woods won gold in the men’s moguls freestyle skiing event with 83.71 points. Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury finished with silver, while Japan’s Ikuma Horishima earned bronze.

Germany -- represented by Julia Taubitz, Tobias Wendl, Tobias Arlt, Max Langenhan, Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina -- captured gold in the luge team relay with a time of 3:41.672, marking Germany’s fourth straight Olympic title in the event. Austria took silver and Italy bronze.

Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida claimed her second gold medal of the Games in the women’s 5,000-meter speed skating race with a time of 6:46.17. Dutch skater Merel Conijn won silver, while Norway’s Ragne Wiklund took bronze.

Austria’s Alessandro Haemmerle successfully defended his Olympic title by winning the men’s snowboard cross final. Canada’s Eliot Grondin secured silver and Austria’s Jakob Dusek took bronze.

In the women’s snowboard halfpipe, South Korea’s Gaon Choi scored 90.25 points to win gold, becoming the youngest medalist of Milano-Cortina 2026 at age 17. American Chloe Kim earned silver, while Japan’s Mitsuki Ono claimed bronze.

The final medals of the day were awarded in short track speed skating. Dutch skater Xandra Velzeboer won gold in the women’s 500 meters in 41.609 seconds and set a world record of 41.399 in the semifinals.

Italy’s Arianna Fontana took silver, while Canada’s Courtney Sarault earned bronze. In the men’s 1,000 meters, Dutch skater Jens van 't Wout captured gold, China’s Long Sun silver and South Korea’s Rim Jong-un bronze.

Curling, ice hockey and skeleton competitions were also held on Day 6 of the Games.
