Mexico voices' grave concern' over violence in Jerusalem
Government calls for halt to violence and expresses support for victims

MEXICO (AA) - Mexico expressed dismay Monday over recent events in East Jerusalem, calling "on all parties to reject violence and provocation."
The Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed its grave concern over the rising violence in Jerusalem, Gaza and other areas and called for de-escalation from all parties to avoid further harm to the civilian population.
Multiple explosions were reported in Jerusalem on Monday after air raid sirens went off. According to the Israeli army, missile attacks were launched from Gaza on Monday afternoon during "Jerusalem Day,” an Israeli national holiday.
"Mexico reiterates its support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through direct negotiations and in accordance with international law and the related UN resolutions," said the ministry.
More than 300 Palestinians have been injured and 228 of them have been hospitalized following clashes with Israeli forces.
In January, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard addressed the issue at the UN security Council, where he asked for the "consolidation of a politically and economically viable Palestinian state."
He expressed Mexico's stance on the matter, condemning the expansion of Israeli settlements, the demolition of Palestinian structures, and attacks from organizations in Gaza against Israel.
