Moldovan parliament approves law to rename Romanian as state language
Romanian will replace Moldovan as national language in all legislative text, says parliment

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Moldovan parliament on Thursday approved the final reading of a draft law renaming the state language from Moldovan to Romanian.
According to a statement by the parliament’s press service, Romanian will replace Moldovan as the country's language in all legislation published by the country, while the terms "official," "state" and "native" will also be replaced.
The bill was proposed by the ruling Action and Solidarity Party.
“Within 30 days from the entry into force of the law, the public authorities with the competence to adopt, approve or issue normative acts inferior to the law will make the necessary changes,” the statement noted.
It further said that the “Our Language” national holiday, celebrated on Aug. 31 to mark the officiality of the native language of Moldova will also be renamed to “Romanian Language Day.”
“The draft law was voted in the second reading by 58 deputies,” the statement concluded.
