Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan ink cooperation deals on environment, agriculture, law enforcement

Mongolian, Kyrgyz presidents assess current state of ties, exchange opinions on expanding, developing relations, says Mongolian presidency

ISTANBUL (AA) — Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan signed six documents on Sunday, including five focusing on environmental, agricultural, and law enforcement cooperation.

The documents were signed after talks between Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov, who arrived in the capital Ulaanbaatar on an official visit earlier in the day.

"During the meeting, they evaluated and concluded the current state of relations and cooperation, and exchanged opinions on the expansion and development of relations in the fields of politics, trade, economy, transport, logistics, agriculture, culture, and tourism, as well as the activation of regional and multilateral cooperation," said a statement from Khurelsukh's office.

Khurelsukh said Mongolia-Kyrgyzstan relations have developed steadily over the past three decades, with that the two presidents discussing cooperation as part of Mongolia's "Vision-2050" long-term development policy, according to the statement.

It said Khurelsukh and Japarov discussed the resumption of direct flights between the two countries and mutual visa-free arrangements. On trade, they agreed on the import and export of commodities such as meat, meat products, fruits, vegetables, and leather.

Praising the work of the Mongolian-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation they also vowed to intensify these efforts.

"As part of the visit, the parties welcomed the opening of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to Mongolia," the statement added.

It said Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan proved their commitment to "continue and deepen cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and other international organizations."

"The events of the state visit of President Sadyr Japarov will be held in two cities of Mongolia - Ulaanbaatar and Erdenet," said a statement by the Kyrgyz presidency.
