LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (AA) - A monument was unveiled in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Monday to remember Turkish Cypriots who were killed 60 years ago.

TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Parliament Speaker Zorlu Tore and Prime Minister Unal Ustel as well as Turkish Ambassador Metin Feyzioglu attended the opening ceremony for the monument, which was built in the Bahceler region on the Iskele-Karpaz road.

The identities and belongings of the 11 men will be exhibited in front of the monument.

In 1964, 11 Turkish Cypriots left their homes from Larnaca by bus to work in the British-controlled zone of Dhekelia. They were killed after their route was blocked by a group of armed Greek Cypriot militiamen. Their remains were found in 2006 and were buried in Northern Cyprus in 2009. However, the bus is still missing. The incident was introduced in 2007 with the documentary "Lost Bus."
