More coronavirus cases, fatalities reported in Latin America

Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Guatemala, Honduras report new cases, deaths

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Countries across Latin America reported new COVID-19 infections and fatalities on Friday, according to official data.


- Brazil

Brazil reported 1,099 fatalities and 40,054 more infections over the past day.

The country's death toll now stands at 560,706, while the total case count has crossed 20.6 million.

According to Health Ministry data, more than 18.84 million recoveries have been recorded in Brazil.


- Mexico

In Mexico, 618 deaths and 21,569 more cases were recorded over the past 24 hours.

The country's overall count is now over 2.92 million, including 243,165 fatalities and more than 2.28 million recoveries, according to official data.


- Argentina

The death toll in Argentina rose by 276 over the last day for a total of 107,023 fatalities, according to the Health Ministry.

Some 13,786 more people tested positive for the virus, bringing the country's tally to over 4.98 million.

Recoveries in Argentina, a country with a population of 45 million, numbered at least 4.63 million.

The country is eighth in the world in terms of the number of cases.


- Colombia

The Health Ministry of Colombia reported a total of 204 new fatalities over the past day, raising the country's virus death toll to 121,899.

The total number of cases exceeded 4.82 million, with 6,540 new infections in the country, while the number of recoveries stood at over 4.62 million.


- Peru

Peru's Health Ministry registered 36 new deaths and 729 infections over the past 24 hours.

The total number of cases rose to 2.12 million, while deaths hit 196,760 and recoveries over 2.8 million.


- Chile

According to a statement issued by the Chilean Health Ministry, the number of coronavirus-related fatalities has increased to 35,806, with 135 people dying in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases increased by 1,206 to 1.62 million, with 1.57 million people recovering.


- Ecuador

Ecuador reported 859 infections over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 490,356.

The death toll in the country has reached 31,754 with 33 additions over the past day, the Health Ministry said, adding that the total number of recoveries had risen to 443,880.


- Bolivia

Bolivia's Health Ministry reported 25 deaths due to the virus and 698 cases over the past day.

The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 476,795, while the death toll registered at 17,935.

A total of 412,909 people have recovered from the virus.


- Paraguay

According to data from Paraguay's Health Ministry, a total of 35 people died due to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 15,207.

The country reported 400 new cases, raising total infections to 454,194, while recoveries reached 424,949.


- Guatemala

According to local media in Guatemala, the country reported 54 coronavirus deaths over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 10,578.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country increased by 4,068 to reach 381,514.

A total of 333,958 people have recovered from the virus.


- Honduras

Local media in Honduras reported 38 coronavirus-related deaths in the country, bringing the death toll to 8,052.

A total of 794 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country, with the tally reaching 304,181.

The country also reported 102,866 recoveries from the virus.
