ANKARA (AA) - Global coronavirus recoveries surpassed the 3.5 million mark Thursday, according to a running tally by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
Data showed a total of 3.504,346 patients won their battle against COVID-19, while the number of cases and deaths hit 7,432,275 and 418,052, respectively.
The US has the highest number of recoveries with more than 533,500, followed by Brazil with nearly 420,000.
While the US continues to be the worst-hit by the virus, being the only country to cross the 1 million threshold with an excess of 2 million cases and more than 113,000 deaths, the new epicenter of Brazil has nearly 772,500 cases and nearly 40,000 fatalities.
China, ground zero for the virus, has registered more than 84,200 cases and nearly 79,500 recoveries, but since early May its death toll stands at 4,638. The barely changing figures continue to raise questions in and outside China.
Overall, the virus has spread to 188 countries since it first emerged in China in December.
Despite the rising number of cases, most who contract the virus suffer mild symptoms before making a recovery.
