By Khalid Majdoub
RABAT (AA) - Moroccan King Mohammed VI is in Nigerian capital Abuja for his first visit to the African country since assuming power 18 years ago, Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement released late Thursday.
The historic visit constitutes the third leg of a larger Africa tour, which has already brought the king to Ethiopia and Madagascar.
His next stop will be Kenya, according to his official itinerary.
In Abuja, Mohammed VI -- accompanied by a large delegation of advisors, government ministers and military officials -- was received by Nigerian Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the king’s visit reflects "the Kingdom of Morocco’s desire -- at the highest level -- to foster partnerships with the African continent and promote cooperation along the South-South axis".
Mohammed VI’s African tour kicked off on Nov. 17.
