Moroccan NGO says it held 100 Gaza solidarity demonstrations

Demonstrators call for closure of Israeli communication office in Rabat

By Khalid Mejdoup

A Morocco-based non-governmental organization on Saturday said that it staged 100 demonstrations in 56 cities on Friday in solidarity with Gaza and to call for the closure of the Israeli communication office in Rabat.

In a statement, the Moroccan Commission for Advocating the Nation's Causes said that it “continues solidarity activities with resilient Gaza to condemn Zionist atrocities against civilians across Palestine and to reject Moroccan normalization with the criminal entity.”

It said that these demonstrations were “an expression of their (the Moroccan people's) support for their brethren in Gaza and a renewal of the popular rejection of all ominous normalization agreements.”

Protesters demanded the closure of the Israeli communication office in Rabat, according to the statement.

The participants raised posters and chanted slogans condemning “international negligence” in supporting the people of Gaza.

The demonstrations have also called for the opening of the Rafah border crossing for the entry of urgent humanitarian aid.

On an almost daily basis, many Moroccan cities, including the capital Rabat, witness massive gatherings in solidarity with the Palestinian people, demanding the cessation of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, and access to humanitarian aid.

Since an Oct. 7 attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip, killing at least 20,258 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 53,688 others, according to health authorities in the enclave.

The Israeli onslaught has left Gaza in ruins with half of the coastal territory's housing stock damaged or destroyed, and nearly 2 million people displaced within the densely-populated enclave amid shortages of food and clean water.
