MOSCOW (AA) – Russia on Saturday protested the Czech Republic for sanctioning and freezing the assets of the state company Roszagransobstvennost, which is responsible for managing Russia's assets abroad.
The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Czech charge d'affaires Jiri Cistecky and conveyed a "strong protest" for freezing Roszagransobstvennost's assets and imposing a ban on using the property on the territory of the landlocked Central European country, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry warned that the Russian side will use all means, including retaliatory measures against Czech property assets in Russia, to protect its interests.
On Wednesday, the Czech government announced that it had frozen Russian state-owned properties on its territory, expanding its sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the Czech actions "illegal under international law."
