Most Americans say won't support Trump in 2020: poll
Fifty-seven percent of registered voters say would definitely not support US president's re-election bid

WASHINGTON (AA) - Most eligible Americans are unlikely to cast their ballots in favor of President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race, according to a new poll released Thursday.
A PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist Institute survey indicated 57 percent of registered voters would definitely not support the president's reelection bid.
Roughly 10 percent of Republicans, 91 percent of Democrats and two-thirds of Independents said they would not support Trump's effort to secure a second term.
Moreover, roughly 30 percent of all respondents said they would cast ballots in his favor while just 13 percent said they were undecided.
“The president has had his base and not much else,” Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, said, according to PBS News Hour.
The ongoing partial government shutdown, in which 800,000 federal employees have missed paychecks in addition to many more federal contractors, has not helped Trump's re-election aims.
Fifty-four percent of respondents said they believe Trump is to blame for the stand-still, compared to 31 percent who blame Congressional Democrats.
The shutdown is on day 27 with no end anywhere in sight.
