Most Wednesday flights to be cancelled at Germany's Berlin airport over strike
Full-day walkout called for ground staff at Berlin-Brandenburg airport, likely to ground almost all flights, says airport operator
BERLIN (AA) - Germany's Berlin-Brandenburg airport announced on Monday that almost all flights would likely be cancelled on Wednesday due to a strike called by ground staff.
"In this situation, we must assume that no flights can take place at the Berlin-Brandenburg airport (BER) on this day," the airport operator said in a statement and advised passengers to contact their airlines for further information.
Earlier in the day, the ver.di trade union called on staff of the airport company, ground handling services, and air aviation security to stop work on Wednesday due to an ongoing wage dispute.
"The strike will continue all-day, it will start with the morning shift, and end in the late evening," the union said in a statement.
The ver.di union, which represents around 6,000 employees at Berlin-Brandenburg airport, is demanding €500 ($545) more per month, wage increases to offset the rise in inflation, and other improvements in working conditions.
