ISTANBUL (AA) - A mountaineer died after falling from about 300 meters (984 feet) while climbing a mountain in the northwestern US state of Alaska, according to the authorities.
Another mountaineer was seriously injured.
Two individuals climbed Johnson Mountain in Denali National Park late Thursday, reaching an altitude of 2,500 meters (8,202 feet), but fell from a height of about 300 meters (984 feet), according to a statement from the National Park Service.
"The fall was witnessed by another climbing party on the route, who alerted the Alaska Regional Communication Center at approximately 10:45 pm (0245GMT)," it said.
Officials noted that one climber died in the accident, while the other was rescued injured.
It was reported that the seriously injured climber was transferred to a health center.
An investigation into circumstances around the accident remains ongoing, ABC News reported.
