ISTANBUL (AA) – South Korean intelligence reported Wednesday that North Korean soldiers sent to Russia for the war in Ukraine have been learning drone tactics from Moscow, according to local media.
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) concluded that Russia may have supplied North Korea with drone technology in exchange for Pyongyang’s military support for Moscow, said South Korea’s Yonhap News.
"As there is a sign that North Korean troops dispatched to Russia have been learning drone operations and tactics from Moscow, we are monitoring possible drone cooperation between the two sides," the intelligence said.
In addition to supplying ammunition and conventional weapons, North Korea has deployed approximately 11,000 soldiers to join Russian forces in the Kursk region of Russia since October.
The NIS said last week that it seems North Korea has sent more troops to Russia.
North Korea has focused on the development of unmanned aerial vehicles, with Kim Jong Un instructing the rapid large-scale production of suicide drones in November.
