ISTANBUL (AA) - The NBA postponed Saturday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis, citing safety concerns following a fatal Border Patrol shooting in the city.

The decision was made in the state of Minnesota "to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community," the league said on the US social media company X.

The game at the Target Center has been rescheduled for Sunday at 5.30 pm local time (2230GMT).

It came hours after a Border Patrol officer shot and killed an armed man at 9.05 am local time during what the Department of Homeland Security described as a targeted operation against someone wanted for "violent assault."

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara identified the victim as a 37-year-old white American with only traffic violations on record, believed to be a lawful gun owner with a valid carry permit.

Minnesota has mobilized National Guard troops amid escalating tensions and protests following the incident.
