ANKARA (AA) – To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, a renovated neonatal unit in the largest children's hospital in Cuba has been named Türkiye, symbolizing the two countries' collaboration in the health care sector.
According to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Eusebio Hernandez Children's Hospital in Havana, which was ravaged by Hurricane Ian last year, has been renovated by TIKA.
The newly renovated neonatal unit at the hospital has been named "Türkiye" by the Cuban Ministry of Health.
In this regard, a ceremony was held at the hospital, which was attended by Cuban Deputy Minister of Health Reynol Garcia, Türkiye's Ambassador to Havana Vehbi Esgel Etensel, and TIKA representatives.
During the ceremony, Garcia expressed heartfelt gratitude to Türkiye and TIKA for their support during Cuba's most challenging times.
A range of cutting-edge medical equipment, including intensive care incubators, respirators, and transfer incubators, were ceremoniously delivered to the neonatal service at the hospital.
After Hurricane Ian hit Cuba in September 2022, the hospital's devices were severely damaged due to power outages and fires in Havana and many cities in the country's west.
