New car sales in Russia down 27%

MOSCOW / ISTANBUL (AA) - New car sales in Russia decreased by 27% to 404,000 in the January-April period of the year compared to the same period last year.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced on Monday that new car sales decreased by 27% in the first four months of the year compared to the same period of 2024.

New imported car sales decreased by 40% in April over the same period.

Western car companies, which were the market leaders in Russia until February 2022, announced their withdrawal from the country with the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022.

After hitting a standstill point, car sales entered a recovery process, especially as Chinese companies exported to the country and domestic producers increased their production.
