New Zealand reports record daily COVID cases, no related deaths

ANKARA (AA) - New Zealand on Wednesday surpassed 1,580 daily coronavirus cases for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The country's health minister confirmed 1,588 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, while no coronavirus-related fatalities were reported.

The previous record for cases was 1,203 on Tuesday.

The latest figures raised New Zealand’s overall tally to 25,050, including 8,734 active cases and 53 deaths.

Some 63 people continue to receive treatment at hospitals.

Meanwhile, in Australia, 65 people died from COVID-19-related complications in the past 24 hours raising the overall death toll to 4,797, according to the health department.
