MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AA) - At least six people, including four female teenaged suicide bombers were killed and 16 others were injured in an attack in northeast Nigeria's Maiduguri city Wednesday, according to the national emergency service.
The bombers detonated their explosive vests in Usmanti, an area that houses a crowded community near a police hospital, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in the northeast, said.
"Four female teenage suicide bombers and two other men died when they detonated explosives in Usmanti along the Muna Garage road," Ibrahim added in a statement.
Nobody has claimed responsibility but a military source said the attack bears the trademark of Boko Haram insurgents which has carried out similar acts in the area.
The area leads to an exit to the central part of Nigeria’s northeast Borno State with a major highway that leads to neighboring African nation of Cameroon, which too has experienced about seven attack since December 2016.
