Nigeria: 8 soldiers killed in Boko Haram attack
Several Boko Haram militants also die in fight, according to local media citing military sources

LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - At least eight Nigerian soldiers have been killed in an Boko Haram attack on an army position in the restive northeast, local media reported on Friday.
The deadly attack occurred in the heavily fortified northeastern Geidam town on Wednesday evening, causing multiple injuries to the troops, the news outlet Premium Times quoted the local military sources as saying.
Several Boko Haram militants also died in the ensuing fight, it added.
The army has neither confirmed nor denied the attack.
However, in statement on Friday, the army said four terrorists were killed and caches of weapons were seized when troops raided their hideouts in northeastern Borno state.
Army spokesman Ado Isa said the troops had conducted a clearance operation on suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ hideout along Makinta Meleri in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.
He said the troops recovered four AK-47 rifles, along with other weapons.
