Nigerian federal lawmaker killed in election violence
Opposition lawmaker Olatoye was shot in the eyes at a polling station in southwest Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - A Nigerian federal parliamentarian has died of injuries he sustained after being attacked at a polling station in the southwestern Oyo state, police confirmed Saturday.
Temitope Olatoye, an opposition People's Democratic Party lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency of the state was shot by unknown gunmen in the eyes during an election day violence.
"The man was shot and he was immediately rushed to the University College Teaching Hospital [in the Oyo capital city Ibadan] but unfortunately he couldn't make it," national police spokesman Frank Mba told a local broadcaster.
"We've got some lead and it won't take time to get the perpetrators," TVC television quoted him as saying.
The violence was part of the fallout of the governorship elections in at least 29 of Nigeria's 36 states.
Five persons had earlier been confirmed dead in various election violence across the country, including two political thugs shot dead in southwest Ondo state after they snatched ballot boxes.
