Nigerian, Indian leaders discuss cooperation in various areas
Leaders emphasize joint actions to secure maritime trade routes, combat piracy in Gulf of Guinea, Indian Ocean

ABUJA, Nigeria (AA) – Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday discussed enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and intelligence sharing.
The two met at the presidential residence in the Nigerian capital Abuja, Tinubu's special adviser Bayo Onanuga said in a written statement.
Amid rising threats in the Gulf of Guinea and the Indian Ocean, they stressed joint actions to secure maritime trade routes and combat piracy.
Modi pledged India’s support for Nigeria’s defense modernization, highlighting India’s role as a "trusted defense producer."
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding focusing on cultural exchange programs, customs cooperation, and expanded partnerships across various sectors.
