LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday dismissed two top officials who had been suspended over allegations of corruption, months after a probe panel investigating the accusations had submitted its report.

“President Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir David Lawal and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ambassador Ayo Oke,” Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, said in a statement.

The statement also said Boss Mustapha, a ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) politician, was named new government secretary.

“[Buhari] has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the [NIA] and make appropriate recommendations,” it added.

The statement did not mention possible prosecution of the officials over the corruption allegations.
