ANKARA (AA) — North Korea on Saturday confirmed that it tested a "cruise missile super-large warhead" and a new type of anti-aircraft missile off the country's west coast.
The spokesman of the nuclear-armed nation's missile administration said in statement that the tests were conducted on Feb. 2.
"The tests are a part of the normal activities of the administration and its affiliated defence science institutes for the rapid development of the technologies in various aspects such as function, performance and operation of new-type weapon systems and had nothing to do with the regional situation," state-run KCNA news agency quoted the unnamed spokesman as saying.
On Friday, South Korea's military said North Korea launched new cruise missiles off its west coast.
Pyongyang launched cruise missiles on at least four occasions this year, including from a submarine.
The launches came as Seoul has ramped up military collaborations with the US and Japan.
South Korean special operations troops have concluded this year's first combined exercise with US Green Berets in drills that began on Jan. 22.
