OECD area jobless rate slightly stable at 4.9% in September

Number of unemployed fell slightly to 33M in OECD area

ANKARA (AA) - The unemployment rate in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) area in September was stable at 4.9%.

The figure was down 0.4 percentage points below its pre-pandemic level in September, the Paris-based organization said in a statement on Thursday.

The number of unemployed fell slightly to 33 million in the OECD area.

The OECD unemployment rate was broadly unchanged in September for both women and men, at 5.1% and 4.6%, respectively.

On the other hand, the youth unemployment rate for people age 15-24 rose to 10.8%.

In the euro area, the jobless rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 6.6% in September, with the largest declines seen in Austria, France, Greece, and Lithuania.

Outside Europe, the unemployment rate fell in Canada, Mexico, and the US and was broadly stable in Japan.
