While majority are in favor of bilateral negotiations with EU, there are also concerns

GENEVA (AA) - Only 28% of Swiss people hold positive views toward the EU, according to a survey by public broadcaster SRG released on Friday, which shows 49% of Swiss respondents have negative feelings of the EU.
While 71% support continuing bilateral negotiations with the EU, the survey reveals major concerns. Notably, 52% of respondents see the EU as a "bureaucratic juggernaut," with another 31% agreeing to a lesser extent.
In addition, 66% of Swiss respondents believe the EU is unable to address major global challenges, and 77% fear that continued negotiations with the EU may lead to increased immigration.
On economic matters, however, the survey yielded more favorable results.
A substantial 88% view the negotiations as "important" for Switzerland’s economy, and 81% believe good relations with the EU "secure contracts and give Swiss companies access to the most important export market.”
The bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU began with the first in 1999 (Bilaterals I) and a second in 2004 (Bilaterals II). The Swiss federal government is currently working on further negotiations to modernize and expand the existing bilateral agreements.
